The Exchange

I had a quick exchange of emails with my 'believer' friend...
me being a devout 'non-believer' thought I had her wittily cornered, but she managed to out wit me in under ten seconds...something which I have become quite accustomed to (and also thoroughly enjoy) when it comes to her.

me: He who never knows love
Lives peacefully and in happiness
If one is lucky, he stays that way
Believer: He who never knows love has never lived. His luck lies in that he perhaps never realizes how unlucky he truly is...

@Anushka, Worry not, this debate has been on for over a year now and is showing no signs of ending...

@Believer, I would rather continue my current existence and not truly 'live', than live a life filled with pain, sadness and confusion that love brings with it.

And I just cracked the AP code. Nice to know you already made the trip.

@OBS, Anushka and Dhoo/Virginia (why the dual identity?), read what the believer has to say, rebuttal anyone?

Believer posted this as her FB status:

This Believer wishes to remain anonymous in some quarters but loves those who think have been cornered by her in some arguments and post those arguments in their blogs. The pain , sadness and confusion that love brings is always, always balanced out by the contentment, euphoria, bluer skies, greener leaves and the sheer poetry of that existence.

THAT, my dear is Life.

NehaD? Are you listening?

Believers like me and skeptics like you have produced some of the greatest literature on the subject.

How could they not?

It feels like a fullness and an emptiness. It is joy and despair. It is sleep and wakefulness. It is placing your heart in a platter and handing it over to be either pureed in a cuisinart or wrapped in cotton wool and worshiped. It is giving anything to make him ( or her) smile. It is loving his flaws and also wanting to slap him for not seeing them.

It is life itself or at the very least the most inexplicably beautiful thing about life. Why would I give that up for peace of mind? And I shall convert you yet...that is a promise. :-)

I also want to join this world of anonymity and will offer a mere hint of who I could be - AP ... :) for those who read - expressway to hell, I was the one who slept through it all !!

@believer - love is all the euphoria that you mentioned, that is true. However after not so many chances at love and yet an opinion on it, I am now convinced that the excitement, euphoria and contentment remains in the chasing phase - does he/she like me,- is that person paying a lil more attention to me, the spraying of the slightly more expensive perfume etc :)- sooo since the joy is very high at that time - here's a thought - why not keep that feeling forever and never tell the person concerned or make the feelings known - that way no possibility of rejection and hours and hours of endless joyyy.

@Anon (AP), the Believer replies:

Neha- Kindly pass on this message to the above person.

As a person who has fallen in love and failed at it too,I agree the euphoria is merely in the infatuation phase.

Were it to last, in fact one would have no time for anything else and your body would never be able to cope.:-)

Besides if it is only an infatuation, the minute you find an imperfection it disappears. I;ve been there too.:-) And then there's what for want of a better phrase I call, " true love".

This is the kind that changes you in ways you never imagined. There is all the breathless euphoria and then you settle into a kind of contentment where you never run out of things to say to one another and yet be perfectly happy to be in silence with each other.

You know that other person and yet you just know there's more to know. You grow together, you grow from each other. You discover and explore and want to be with each other. The romance is there, and so is the boredom. You become a habit for each other.

Rejection is part of the risk. But you know what they say, the greater the risk, etc etc.:-)

well then believer, i will cease to be cynical and wish for this moment of true love :( ... like they say in 'the shawshank redemption' - dreams are what the future is made of, hope will take you there... so i wanna dream of this true love one day and i will not send out negative vibes into the universe :) sorry non-believer - the believer has convinced me this time :) - believer - u make me wanna see the light !!

any people waiting to discover and explore, send them my way ... will be eternally grateful :) :) ... and also - nice to have spoken to you, hope to meet soon :)
